Krystal & Ecologi – Case Study

I employ a wide range of strategies in order to build carbon neutral websites. So it was pleasing to see two of these elements – green web hosting and ecological restoration – in one article. Namely, Krystal and Ecologi.

In the article, written by Ecologi, they explore the two companies’ partnership and how their businesses are delivering environmental benefits. Both companies are showing how you can have business-as-usual, but also have a beneficial impact on the planet.

Who are Ecologi?

Ecologi help to fund environmental projects around the world. Their projects are certified Gold Standard, guided by their Climate Committee, and follow the Project Drawdown framework.

As discussed in previous articles, I try to build WordPress websites that have a net beneficial impact on the planet. I use a range of strategies to do this including volunteering and donations. Once I have done everything I can to reduce my emissions, whatever is left I pay to offset through Ecologi.

Where do Krystal fit in?

Krystal are a green web hosting company in the UK. They use renewable energy to power their servers, unlike many companies. They also have some very ambitious tree planting projects in place and encourage their staff to be environmentally conscious.

We’re proud that our hosting is run on 100% renewable electricity from sources like the sun, wind and sea.

I have been using Krystal for years and they provide a great service.

Where do I fit in?

Well, I already use both of these companies. This means that I can build websites that don’t pollute the environment unnecessarily and I can invest in projects that help the planet, both in the UK and abroad.

I am fully aware that my impact is limited, but if every business followed suit the changes would be huge. And, what’s more, operating a business in this way is both rewarding and interesting. You can explore all the projects that your donations help to support, safe in the knowledge that you are undoing some of the negative impacts that businesses create.
