Films at 59
Bristol-based Films at 59 provide cutting-edge pre- and post-production services for the film and television industry. Their equipment rental and post production facilities contribute to award-winning content filmed and broadcast across genres, at every scale, all over the world.
The have worked on shows such as Sex Education, David Attenborough’s Planet Earth III & Dr Who.
The website
The primary objective was to create a modern, user-friendly website that reflects the essence of Films at 59 while providing easy access to their diverse range of projects and services.
Design and User Experience
The design was undertaken by AD Styles and centred on a clean, intuitive interface that prioritised the showcasing of Films at 59’s portfolio. The use of a responsive design ensured optimal viewing across devices, from large desktops to mobile devices. The design enabled the amazing imagery from their projects to shine through and also showcased their sound and editing suites in their premises.
Custom Features
The website incorporated custom features tailored to Films at 59’s unique requirements. This included a dynamic portfolio section, allowing them to effortlessly display their impressive body of work. We also built a custom kit directory for filmmakers to browse before hiring filming equipment.
Films at 59 have completed hundreds of unique projects such as the BBC / David Attenborough series Planet Earth, and they needed a way to showcase them. I built two sections for this. One was an archive list of accordions which displayed the amazing breadth of their work in a list, which could be expanded for more detail.
The other was in the form of case studies. For example their case study on Planet Earth III which allowed them to delve into the processes and highlights from undertaking the project. They also could then use more of their beautiful imagery from the programme.
Content Management with WordPress
I used WordPress as the CMS which provided Films at 59 with the ability to update and maintain their website simply. Using ACF, I built an intuitive backend interface allowed for the seamless addition of new projects, case studies, blogs and staff members, keeping the website dynamic and reflective of the company’s progression.
Performance and SEO
Ensuring optimal website performance and visibility was a key focus. We implemented industry best practices for search engine optimisation (SEO), using Yoast, to enhance Films at 59’s online presence. This included optimising images, refining meta tags, and clean code to guarantee fast loading times.
Security and Reliability
Given the sensitivity of the media industry, prioritising website security was paramount. We implemented robust security measures, including a security plugin, ensuring the integrity of Films at 59’s online platform.
Results and Feedback
Since the launch of the new website, Films at 59 has experienced increased engagement and positive feedback from both clients and industry. They have seen good traffic on Google Analytics and are very happy with the result.
And to Conclude…
The collaboration with Films at 59 was very enjoyable and it was great to work with another stalwart of Bristol’s media.
