Lakota
Lakota is an independent nightclub based in Stokes Croft, Bristol.
It is a true staple on the Bristol music scene. For over 30 years it has been serving up drum and bass, dubstep, disco, hardcore, house, rap and techno to the people of Bristol.
So it was with great pride that I built this site, in collaboration with Rhombus Studio. The site aims to showcase Lakota’s past, present and future through news, galleries and events.
The Build
The site is a completely custom-built WordPress site showcasing the nightclub’s new brand. The site has a number of custom posts types to enable the site to display the wide range of venues Lakota offers.
These include galleries of new and old photographs, links to present and future gigs as well as detailed information on the nightclub.
I also built some custom filtering functions in order to allow users to sort through galleries and events by a range of specific filters, such as month and year, as well as being able to search for specific items.
The Result
The result is a responsive WordPress site that is easy to update and maintain. The client was extremely pleased with the result as the website will hopefully stand the test of time and promote the club into the future.
The site is quick to load and scores well on Google Lighthouse for accessibility, SEO and performance.
So that’s it! What a great project to work on.
Events, articles and galleries are all pulled through automatically from the custom post types, meaning there is minimum effort when uploading new content.
The site uses a dark colour palette with some nice green accents. The main draw visually, however, is the use of video in the hero and the imagery. Lakota have a whole host of high-resolution imagery which makes the site stand out.
