Rachel Bailey Studio

Rachel Bailey Studio are an award-winning landscape design studio creating sustainable gardens and landscapes designed to increase biodiversity and beauty. Their work spans residential gardens to large-scale landscape projects, all built with environmental stewardship and sustainable design practices in mind.

The Brief

The primary objective of this website was to create a modern, environmentally conscious website that reflects the studio’s commitment to sustainability, whilst showcasing their exceptional design work. A key requirement was highlighting Rachel’s environmental credentials throughout the site.

The site also needed to be easy to edit and upload content by the user.

Sustainable Web Development

The development approach centred on aligning the website’s environmental impact with the studio’s sustainability values. We reduced the number of images and coded the website efficiently to reduce the load on the server, and therefore the amount of electricity the site used.

Also, we decided not to use video on the site due to the heavy load that would incur on the server.

The site was also transferred to Krystal Hosting’s servers meaning the site runs on 100% renewable energy, from the wind and sun. So even though the site runs on renewable energy, we still decided to use as little electricity as possible.

Content Management with WordPress

Using WordPress as the CMS provided an intuitive, scalable platform for maintaining the website. Using Advanced Custom Fields, I built a user-friendly backend interface that allows for easy addition of new projects, blog posts, and updates whilst maintaining the site’s environmental efficiency standards.

Technical Implementation

Green Hosting – The website utilises hosting providers committed to renewable energy, ensuring the server infrastructure aligns with Rachel’s environmental values.

Image Optimisation Strategy – Comprehensive image optimisation techniques deliver Rachel’s stunning landscape photography without compromising on environmental efficiency or visual quality.

Clean Code – Efficient, semantic code eliminate unnecessary bloat whilst ensuring excellent performance across all devices.

Results and Environmental Impact

Since launching, the website has delivered measurable improvements in both environmental impact and business performance for the business.

The alignment between the studio’s values and their digital presence has strengthened her brand authenticity, with the website serving as a demonstration of integrated sustainability thinking.
