FAQ: Do you only create WordPress websites?

I get this question a lot when chatting with potential clients. The short answer? Yes, I only create WordPress websites these days.

But let me explain why that’s actually a good thing.

When I first started in web development years ago, I dabbled in everything and even hand-coded some HTML/CSS sites from scratch and working on games and e-cards.

However, by specialising in WordPress, I’ve been able to develop a depth of knowledge that wouldn’t be possible if I was splitting my attention across multiple platforms. I now know WordPress inside and out, I can troubleshoot issues faster, build more reliable custom features, and ultimately deliver better value to my clients.

Nowadays, however, it is also the platform of choice for over 43% of all sites across the web.

Why WordPress Makes Sense

There are some compelling reasons why I’ve chosen to specialise in WordPress:

Unmatched flexibility: WordPress can be molded to create virtually any type of website – from simple blogs to complex e-commerce stores, membership sites and online learning platforms. With the right approach, there’s almost nothing it can’t do.

User-friendly backend: Your website shouldn’t be a mystery to you. WordPress provides an intuitive interface that allows clients to make content updates themselves without needing to call me every time they want to change a paragraph of text.

Robust: With thousands of plugins and themes available, we can extend functionality without reinventing the wheel. Need a contact form? A booking system? An online store? There are well-established, tested solutions we can implement quickly.

SEO-friendly: WordPress is built with clean code and creates a structure that search engines love. This gives your site a solid foundation for all your SEO efforts.

Scalability: Many people don’t realise that WordPress runs some of the biggest sites on the web, including The New Yorker, BBC America, and Sony Music. It can grow with your business, from startup to enterprise.

Regular updates and security: WordPress is actively maintained by a large community of developers, which means regular updates and security patches. With proper maintenance, WordPress sites can be very secure.

WordPress powers over 40% of all websites on the internet for good reason. It’s flexible, powerful, and when built properly, both secure and easy to maintain.

That said, I’m always honest with potential clients. If your project truly needs something different – maybe you need a specialised web application with unique requirements that WordPress isn’t suited for – I’ll be the first to tell you and point you in the right direction.

But for most business websites, online stores, portfolios, blogs, and even many custom web applications, WordPress is my tool of choice. It gives me the foundation to build exactly what you need without reinventing the wheel.

Custom Coding

I do however custom-code every website from scratch in order to produce a unique website for each client. This means the website caters to the client’s specific requirements and doesn’t rely on third-party code for the site basics.

Building the site this way also makes it easier to scale the functionality of the website in the future.

So yes, I “only” do WordPress – and that focus is precisely what allows me to do it well.

If you have any more questions about your project and whether WordPress is right for you, I’m always happy to chat. Drop me a line and let’s talk about what you’re looking to build.
